How Dragon Bear Publishing came to be.

Hello, and welcome to our little corner on the internet. Dragon Bear Publishing was established in 2019, as an out growth of the self publishing of M. Ray Davis (That’s me, btw).

I had always wanted to be published; I have been writing for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t until last year that I seriously started on this journey. It has been an interesting ride. I never thought much about how I was going to get my words out to the masses until I came across Kindle Direct Publishing.

The process was relatively painless; first, you have to have a KDP account, then you write your manuscript in Word (Docx) format, upload it to KDP. From there you can upload your cover art if you have it, or you can use the cover creator provided by KDP. Once everything is submitted it goes into a review to check for issues with the manuscript format, and to make sure that you are the original author (Copywrite issues). Then in about 72 hours your book/E-Book goes live for the world to enjoy.

And it sat for a while, not getting any sales, so I ran a promotion on KDP Select. Assigning your work to KDP select grants KDP Exclusive distributorship for a period of 90 days. What that means is that you could not have your work distributed by any other printer/e-publisher for 3 months. No biggie, as I am happy with KDP, and all of that. So, I got a few sales and positive reviews which made me feel like I was King of the World.

So why did I start my own publishing company? To give my work credibility, seeing something published by Dragon Bear Publishing, LLC has more pizzazz when you look at it on amazon.com, as opposed to “independently published”. Plus, I get to say that I am a publisher now.

To say that I am pleased with how things have turned out thus far on my journey, would be an understatement. If you are an author, and you have a story to tell, but you have trepidation about submitting your work to a traditional publisher, please consider self-publishing, there is a place out there for your voice. You just have to be brave enough to start your own journey.
